My weekends are usually filled with making high profile sport productions, then transferring these techniques and skills to the students here through classes and workshops to create great content and also to have fun. It gives me a massive sense of pride to be able to help our students pave their way into industry.
See the next few pages for details of the facilities that are housed within each of our campuses. At the University of Salford, we have a long history of providing people with the tools they need to succeed. The room, located in our Newton Building, is used for testing items including microphones and musical equipment. The facility, which is also home to our Greenpower team, is designed to enable research into ultra-low emission vehicles and the development and testing of autonomous systems and noise, vibration and harshness NVH testing. The single-seated Merlin MPT simulator is used to support our teaching.
It will give you a practical experience of aircraft design that complements traditional theory and laboratory learning, so you will be able to input your own aircraft parameters into the simulator before assessing flight characteristics. The Elite has two pilot seats, each with a full set of instrumentation, controls and visuals. As the pilot, you will see a projection of a terrain based on real geographic territory and specific airports in Europe.
For students of aeronautical engineering, we have our very own aerodynamics laboratory and two different flight simulators, which will give you a practical experience of aircraft. The library is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so you can study at a time that suits you. The lab is packed with cutting-edge technical equipment to help you make new discoveries of your own; with AV and HDTV systems that connect you to your lecturers, wherever you are in the lab.
We also have a number of working clinics on campus where, under the supervision of fully trained staff, our students use state-of-the-art equipment and techniques to provide a wide range of treatments to patients and clients. These include a podiatry and sports injury clinic, counselling centre and prosthetics and orthotics lab. Here, our journalism students produce digital content across multiple channels, developing and honing their reporting and content production skills. In addition to two HD TV studios we have a green screen area equipped with cameras that can turn the studio into a 3D digital environment.
These facilities are industry-standard, and are regularly used by the BBC and other media organisations. I get to work with state-of-the-art equipment, which is fantastic, as you familiarise yourself with equipment the industry are using. Set up just like a hospital ward, the suite is equipped with human patient simulators, including two adults, a newborn baby, a child and a birthing mum.
As part of the suite, we also have an immersive simulation room, which allows students to be transported to any environment without having to leave the suite. The technology combines a series of cameras which project realistic images onto the walls, with audio equipment to transform the space into anything from the back of an ambulance to a nightclub, prison cell or family home. It offers affordable and delicious meals and there are plenty of free events happening throughout the year, including the weekly pub quiz and open mic nights.

Our professional-quality screen acting studios allow you to film in front of high definition cameras, while the voice acting studio will give you the chance to master a variety of vocal performances used in radio or video game production. The printing lab contains specialist equipment from screen printers and lithotables to etching presses and felt looms.
For architecture students, our carefully designed open plan studio space provides you with an inspiring environment to develop your ideas, work collaboratively and share best practice. The Maker movement has found its home in Salford in the Newton Building, with our new Maker Space open to all staff and students. Here you can try out a range of new technologies such as laser cutting, 3D printing and waterjet cutting with the help of our experts.
