Man, the details involved in the plot were plentiful and so well-done it had me reeling. But I loved every minute of it. Oh, and the forensics were perfect. Excellent crime writing. Get this one.

Sep 12, Melissa rated it it was ok. When Jazz shows up at her door, the sparks fly all 2. All fingers point to Jazz as the culprit. What if her worst suspicions turn out to be true? Author Claudia Mair Burney has a unique writing style that draws the reader in to the story while she weaves an intricate tale around you. The mystery portions of this novel are excellent. The reader is never left in the dark too long, yet the case is not quickly wrapped up but remains intriguing and keeps you wondering until the conclusion. The author also has a gift for creating black characters whom readers of any race can relate to and identify with.
Some of the spiritual elements of Death, Deceit and Some Smooth Jazz are excellent and thought-provoking while others often make the reader feel helpless and alone. And the sexual tension between the unmarried Amanda and Jazz, although realistic, seems to push the envelope for a Christian novel.
Readers will look forward to the next installment of this series to discover what adventures the characters will be involved with next. Jul 15, Racquel rated it it was amazing. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. Absolutely loved this book!! From the characters to the story line, I loved it all!!
I think what I appreciate most about this book is that even though it was the second book in the series, the author did not overload the first chapter with information from the first book. It just picked up where the first book in the series left off. From the first book I read by Mrs. Burney, I was hooked immediately and this one is no different. The story is compelling and also makes you want to take a step back Absolutely loved this book!! The story is compelling and also makes you want to take a step back and evaluate your life.
What has got to be the best thing, to me, in this book and all of Mrs. Burney's books, as a matter-of-fact is how it makes me want to be a better Christian and have a better relationship with God. The main character's interaction with God is just so great to me. And what's even better is that there is a book 3!! Dec 14, OOSA rated it it was amazing. Only this time, the circumstances are more personal, sort of speak.

The heart is deceitful above all things Reviewed by: Crystal Sep 15, Linda rated it really liked it Shelves: library-loan , christian-fiction , mystery , novel-serious , series , spy-or-police-story , romance , set-in-michigan. Another great book by this author. I might not have enjoyed this one quite as much as the first in the series, but it was still really good.
This was the continued story of Bell, who gets caught up in the drama of the man she's in love with - Jazz, when he gets implicated in a murder, and even some of his fellow officers think he did it. Bell doesn't want to believe he did it, but she's not really sure what to think. Even though the story is a murder mystery, Burney brings her humor into it, whi Another great book by this author.
Even though the story is a murder mystery, Burney brings her humor into it, which makes this even more enjoyable.
Now I have to try to find the last book in the series! Another bonus for me was the references she makes to metro Detroit, which is where I live. Loved that! Apr 21, Chiquedee rated it it was amazing. Book 2 was equally as juicy and hilarious as the first. This one however made Bell sound insane with her pendulum ways. Bell get your act together already!
Felt sorry for Jazz and what he went through but glad it brought them together and challenged their love and faith. Rocky Rocky Rocky Couldn't wait to read book 3 after that bodice ripping! I listened to this book on tape.
